iPod Shuffle 2G bent clip fix

Set the Shuffle face up on the wood, with the bent clip sitting on the wood. Put the butter knife behind between the clip and the body of the Shuffle right over the bend. Hold the knife on both sides and apply force* straight down into the wood until the clip straightens out. It will not ever get completely flat, but this way you are applying evenly distributed pressure just to the metal clip. There is no risk of hurting the electronics inside the body or the contacts in hinge!

As you can see from the pictures, the clip is bent back to fit within the dock.

(* about 1-13 lbs per calculations shown)

P.S.
2G iPod Shuffle Bent Clip - second casualty

I got a 2G iPod Shuffle for Christmas this year. Unfortunately, I put it in my jeans coin pocket, sat down, and bent the clip. I was crushed that I bent up my beautiful little Shuffle.

Just after the accident, I immediately found the article on AppleInsider: First 2G iPod shuffle casualty exposes potential vulnerability and the helpful and technical discussion thread: iPod Shuffle (gen2): bent clip!

I haven't seen anybody besides praseodym report on their unfortunately experience. So I guess I am the "second 2G iPod Shuffle casualty" reported on the net.

I wish I had read Apple Insider before I got my Shuffle.

I haven't tried to bend the clip back. Nor have I seen any advice on how to do so safely. I welcome feedback of your experience or attempts to straighten the clip.

Based on my father's equations, the force required to bend the clip is roughly 0.2e-3 sq.in. times the assumed tensile strength for the aluminum used in the clip. Therefore, given 40-455 MPa of ultimate tensile strength for aluminum, the force I inadvertantely applied must have ranged somewhere between 1 to 13 pounds. This agrees with the forums' calculations.

Regardless, I definitely will be buying the Incipio's USB adapter or the
ThoughtOut shuffleKey device.

I do have some more information to add that hasn't been hashed over in the various discussion groups yet.

It is possible to fit my Shuffle in the dock, with some effort and biting into the plastic. In the pictures below, you can see that I have found a way to get the Shuffle to dock. Instead of forcing it in, one could Dremel out the plastic a bit.

Here are my photos:

Samsung Cell Charger

This entry documents my frustrating search for a Samsung USB cell phone charger. Any help is appreciated.

I had been very happy with Zip-Linq product ZIP-CELL-M01 when I had a Nokia phone. It has a retractable USB A-A male-to-female extension cable and a bunch of adapter tips. I replaced the Nokia phones with a Samsung SGH-D357 and the Samsung SGH-X497. Now I just need a new adapter tip. Very easy? No.

The result of quite a bit of indirect search methods, I do find an answer. I find that I need the LG Mobile phone adapter tip, the LG1 adapter tip. Now I need to find a reputable supplier, and am wondering if anyone has found one that sells the ZIP-ADP-LG1.

I have been doing a Google search for the ZIP-ADP-LG1 adapter tip. I do know that the SGH-D357 and SGH-X497 have identical chargers. The tip is the same. And they both provide 5V 0.7A DC from an AC source (100-240V 50-60Hz 0.15A). I also know that my friend's SGH-S307 phone charger worked for my newer Samsung phone. No website I can find seems to claim their USB cable charges my newer phones. However, they do mention the S307. But using an LG mobile tip, not a Samsung tip. You can find this from the Zip-Linq website that the SGH-S307 can work with the LG Mobile tip "LG1".

So all I have to do is find a reputable reseller of the ZIP-ADP-LG1 adapter tip to work with my Samsung SGH-D357 phone. It is too bad noone out there updates their compatibility page. If I found one website which claimed their device could charge my phone via USB, then this blog entry would not exist.

Here's the sellers I've found so far:
I Got Cables $2.85
Electronics Outfitter $3.69
Cables4Computer $3.99
World of Cables $3.99
HelpFindIt.com $4.22
Guy Graphics $5
Retractable Cables $5.99
ComputerHQ $9.86
A Matter of Fax $12.12
XPC Gear $9.99 including the USB extension cable

If anyone has had a positive experience with one of these resellers, let me know.
